The Two Leads
The book is told in dual POV, alternating between its two leads chapter by chapter, so both sides of the story are on the page from the first chapter.
Kira Vasic
Kira Vasic is with the Coalition.
She is sent aboard the decommissioned warship Meridian on what is meant to be a final mission: assess its former commander and end him if she must.
Her orders arrive encrypted. She brings a list of forty three names the war took, and no inclination to forgive any of it.
Once aboard, she ends up inside a joint sabotage investigation instead of the assassination she was sent to carry out. Her chapters show that investigation from the Coalition side, so her reasoning and her anger are never hidden.
Thane Aldric
Commander Thane Aldric gave up command of the warship Meridian to serve as its diplomatic liaison, aboard the very ship that was once his weapon.
He is a tactical genius and a reluctant diplomat. Years of command isolation have made vulnerability feel dangerous, so he flinches at unexpected touch.
Kael-7 runs in his head on a loop he cannot break, and the ending never moves.
His own point of view chapters mean his reasons are never a mystery to the reader, even when they are a mystery to Kira.
Six people crew the Meridian, drawn from both sides of a war that is not fully over, and none of them chose to be stationed together. Dominion Oversight Officer Voss is aboard in an oversight role rather than as crew, which makes seven names on this page.

Maren, the navigator. The last person aboard to trust anyone new, and the first to fight for the people she decides are hers.
Joss, the ship's medic. The quiet mediator, and the one who asks the question no one else dares to: who are you if you are not at war?
Voss, Dominion Oversight Officer. Says little and watches everything. The conversations in corridors and the things left unsaid belong to Voss as much as anyone.
The Warship Meridian

The Meridian is a decommissioned warship, once Thane Aldric's own command.
After the war it carries a mixed crew from the Coalition and the Dominion, holding an uneasy peace in close quarters.
The wider truce between the two factions is called the Accord. The Meridian is where it is tested hardest, because the ship is sealed, small, and effectively inescapable.
Two human factions fought a war that ended five years before the story begins, and it left millions dead.
Kira serves the Coalition. Thane formerly commanded for the Dominion. Both sides still circle each other with loaded weapons, and the fragile peace between them is the Accord that gives the book its title.
The Battle of Kael-7, which Thane carries throughout the story, sits at the center of what the two factions still cannot forgive.
There are no other factions and no other species anywhere in this universe, which makes it human only sci fi romance throughout. Every threat is human, rooted in conflicting loyalties and buried history.
The Sabotage at the Heart of the Story

A saboteur destroys a transit corridor and frames the Coalition for it, and the ceasefire begins to crack.
The only way to the truth is a joint investigation, which puts Kira, Thane and the crew to work side by side in corridors that feel tighter every day.
The trail leads through fabricated intelligence and buried history, toward a conspiracy built to reignite a war that never fully ended.
The case and the romance move together. Breakthroughs in one land alongside milestones in the other, so neither storyline is filler.
Found Family, the Hard Way

None of the six crew asked to be stationed together, and none expected to need each other.
They start as colleagues on opposite sides of a suspicious ceasefire. By the end of the book they are a crew that matters as much as the couple, built on shared danger rather than shared history or faction.
It is a peace they build for themselves, aboard the one ship that was supposed to keep them apart.
